Celebrity Spotlight: Steven Lane Taylor

Inspired by a brief, but profound, mystical experience he had at the age of fourteen, Steven Lane Taylor has been a lifelong student of spirituality. His studies eventually culminated in a weekly class that he taught for eight years in Dallas, Texas.

Since June of 2004, Steven has been traveling all across the country sharing the principles in his book, Row, Row, Row Your Boat: A Guide for Living Life in the Divine Flow.

Steven's book is the product of 20 years of focused attention on the divine flow in our lives, and how that flow is continually guiding us toward the effortless fulfillment of our heart's desires. "The trick," Steven says, "is learning how to recognize and cooperate with that flow." And through his book, his talks, and his workshops, that's exactly what Steven teaches people how to do.

Steven currently lives in Sedona, Arizona. For more information about Steven, his book, his talk and workshop schedule, or to sign up to receive his free weekly inspirational email, please visit www.rowrowrow.com.

1. Tell us about a time when you were in fear about your creative career journey and you didn't think it would go anywhere...

You mean today, right? Or maybe yesterday .... or the day before that? As strange as it may seem, there are very few days that go by when I don’Äôt question my journey. It must be all that negativity and pessimism I was raised with. On the other hand, there is not a day that goes by when I don’Äôt feel that my journey is divinely supported, either. For me, continuing to pursue my new creative path in life requires me to constantly remind myself that I have the whole universe working on behalf to help me fulfill my dreams. A doubt arises, I remember the Truth about this beneficent world we live in ... and I am okay. A fear arises, and I remember how I have always been miraculously supported in the past ... and once again, I am okay. These fears are not intense, and they do not last long, but after several years in my new career I still can’Äôt say that I am totally fear free. I suspect that, to one degree or another, everyone on a journey of faith has their moments of doubt ... even those who seem wildly successful.

2. Tell us about a time when you were feeling confident about your creative career journey and you absolutely knew you were going to be okay....

In 2001 I got laid off from my 30-year career as an advertising writer. I could have jumped right back into the business, but having discovered a calling to devote myself to more spiritual pursuits, I saw my layoff as a potential opportunity for me’Äîthe opportunity to live my dream of being a spiritual author, speaker, and teacher. I was lying in the bathtub one afternoon (yes, I take baths in the afternoon ... and bubble baths, at that) when I realized that I finally had the time to write a book that had been on my mind for many, many years. The moment I had that idea I experienced a rush of joy from the bottom of my feet to the top of my head. I cannot tell you how ecstatic I felt. I have never been that enthusiastic about anything before, nor have I since. I was completely filled with a sense of divine bliss. It was in that moment that I knew, without a doubt, that I was going to be okay. It felt as if my inner spirit was telling me, "Yes, Steve, yes! This is what you are here to do!" And I knew that the universe would support my new endeavor. Today, just as I dreamed, I am a published author, speaker, and spiritual teacher. And on those odd days when I do happen to entertain doubts about my new career, I just remember that moment in the bathtub, and my confidence is restored.

3. How did you discover your passion?

Although I spent more than 30 years as a successful advertising writer, I have always been fascinated by man’Äôs spiritual nature. I didn’Äôt realize that my interest was actually a passion until a Unity church I attended in Dallas, Texas asked me to lead a group of men and women who were interested in studying the latest books on spirituality’Äîbooks by Marianne Williamson, Deepak Chopra, Neale Donald Walsch, and so on. Leading that class turned out to be so fulfilling for me, that whenever business took me out of town over a weekend, I would fly back to Dallas on Saturday night just to teach my class on Sunday morning, and then I would fly back out that afternoon. It quickly became obvious to me that helping people get in touch with their spiritual nature’Äîand with the One Spirit that connects us all’Äîwas more than just an interest of mine ... it was my calling.¬Ý
